How we got started:
This group was started in the fall of 2007 by a stay-at-home mom from Canton, MI, who has spent many years in volunteer work, including Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.  Her own grandmother resided in a nursing home for over 5 years and although her grandmother was fortunate enough to have a large family to provide mail and visitors, some did not.  She saw how something as simple as a piece of mail could brighten up the day of a senior citizen. So, this mom took her idea of Snail Mail and decided to make it a reality.  Many caring people have donated cards, craft supplies, and their time to help make Snail Mail succeed.  The Canton Summit On The Park Facility has provided workrooms for volunteers to gather and make greeting cards.   Cards and donations for Snail Mail may be dropped off at the front desk of Waltonwood Carriage Park Assisted Living at 2000 Canton Center Rd., Canton.  Please label the items in a bag or box with "Snail Mail".
Snail Mail spends a few hundred dollars every month on postage to mail the cards, plus additional costs of buying mailing envelopes, labels, ordering brochures and purchasing supplies to make cards.  We are a non-profit organization and would greatly appreciate any financial help, no matter how small.  Every penny will be used for the items mentioned above.  There are no paid positions at Snail Mail, just volunteers. Please make donations payable to "Snail Mail For Seniors", and send to our p.o. box  (listed under contact us section)    Thank you!
