Snail Mail for Seniors is a non-profit group set up to send greeting cards and children's drawings to senior citizens free of charge. We particularly aim for the senior that does not usually receive many visitors or mail. They can be residing in a nursing/assisted living home,or a private residence. We are currently sending mail to over 750 senior citizens monthly around the state of Michigan. Some of these facilities include:
Waltonwood Carriage Park and Cherry Hill, Canton
Eastwood Convalescent Center, Detroit
Medilodge, Plymouth and Richmond
Tendercare of Traverse City
Clark Retirement Home, Grand Rapids
Metron of Cedar Springs, Forest Hills and Belding
Lutheran Home, Monroe and Livonia
Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility, Manistique (U.P.)
Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro
Superior Woods Nursing Center, Ypsilanti
Arden Courts, Livonia.......and others
We also send monthly cards along with the hot lunches in the Canton "Meals on Wheels" program.
How it works:
The activities director from any nursing home may e-mail or write us with the names of people to receive the mail. To protect the privacy of residents, first names only may be used if preferred. The mail is then sent to the activities director to distribute. We continue to send mail automatically until we are told to take someone off the list. We also take names of people in private residences that would enjoy receiving mail. We will never give out names or addresses to anyone outside of our staff of volunteers.
